England Women vs West Indies Women playing 11 final

womans world cup

England Women vs West Indies Women,

Preview

The Women's World Cup is almost ready for the knockouts. Three out of the four semifinalists have already been confirmed, with the fourth one to be decided through Saturday's game between India and New Zealand. While those two slug it out in Taunton to send each other home, less than 50 miles away, England will face a lowly Windies in their quest to make the top spot their own.

The brief in England's team meeting shouldn't just be about staying ahead of Australia in the points table but to also ensure that complacency doesn't creep in before the all-important knockouts. Considering the format for semis is the conventional one - with the top-ranked team taking on the fourth-placed side, and the teams that finish second and third pitted against each other - a defeat won't really be very harmful to England as far as being in the next round is concerned.

But having their five-game winning streak snapped just before the semis could give their semifinal opposition a flaw to exploit.

Both England and Windies arrive at the back of wins in high-scoring games. Deandra Dottin's smashing ton (104 off 76 balls) and Natalie Sciver's sensational century (126 off 111 balls) lit up a tournament that has also seen team totals as low as 48. Both line-ups also boast of players capable of being fine support cast and share long partnerships, thereby setting the game up for another potential high-scorer.

England: Fran Wilson made a solid start to the tournament but injuries kept her on the bench for two fixtures before she made her way back for the last one. Wilson managed just 10 runs but Danielle Wyatt, the player she replaced in the latest fixture, hasn't performed to expectations either. There's a chance England will hold onto Wilson. There could also be a toss up between right-arm pacer Laura Marsh and offbreak bowler Danielle Hazell. Hazell made way for Marsh in the previous fixture, where the latter finished with figures of 1 for 48. The England board could be tempted to persist with Marsh to offer her another opportunity, before falling back on their first-choice bowler Hazell in the knockouts.

Windies: Considering wins have been hard to come by, Stafanie Taylor won't see a reason to tinker around with a line-up that has earned the side two wins on the bounce.
