Glamorgan have not got off to the best of starts in this competition and even though it is still early days, both the teams will be keen to build some momentum and get their campaigns going. Can Essex build on their win in the last match at home against heavy hitting Glamorgan?
Essex
After two losses in their first two matches, Essex finally managed to register their first victory in the competition against Somerset. They will know, however, that Glamorgan is a much stronger team than Somerset and to beat them will require another flawless performance.
The Essex batting unit has been doing well, especially, now that Ryan Ten Doeschate is back in the runs. He and Ravi Bopara and the engine of this side and will need to provide the momentum for Essex in most matches.
Dan Lawrence, Tom Westley and Varun Chopra at the top of the Essex lineup are all capable of going hard at the bowling with success but to expect them to go and get big scores or bat through the innings is hoping for a little bit much.
Asha Zaidi showed evidence of his big hitting in the last match and that is another good sign for Essex. The biggest advantage that Essex will take from the last match is the form that Mohammad Amir displayed. His four overs went for only 17 runs and he took a wicket as well.
Simon Harmer continued his good form picking three wickets as did Paul Walter.
Essex is a team full of match winners with both bat and ball and if they can get some consistency going, they should definitely find themselves in contention for the finals day.
Glamorgan
This is one of the sides that we are most excited to see play on the field and believe that they could be real contenders for the overall title as well. With Colin Ingram and Merchant de Lange on Kolpak deals, Glamorgan has two players of current international caliber at its disposal.Captain Jaques Rudolph adds to the South African flavor and will be important in playing the anchor role around other big hitters. Cooke, Donald, and Wagg are also excellent strikers of the ball giving Glamorgan some superb batting depth.
Michael Hogan has emerged as the top wicket taker but the threat that de Lange provides up front helps him get some of those wickets.
There is a tendency for this Glamorgan team to collapse especially if Colin Ingram loses his wicket quickly. Ingram, however, already has one century in this competition and can change the game in the span of a few overs. He is the batsman we are backing to be the highest scorer of the competition.
If there is any weakness that Glamorgan has then it is in the death bowling department. De Lange’s pace can result in him going for a few runs while depending on Colin Ingram to bowl out his four overs every match is a risky proposition as well.
